Josee's Resource #10: Debate.org

From http://www.debate.org/

When trying to find a hook or a specific question to ask students in order to entice a debate activity or assess prior knowledge, I recommend that teachers visit Debate.org.  This website has a large database of higher-order questions to ask students, as well as controversial and opinion-based topics.  Additionally, all questions are divided into their respective category or discipline.  Thus, a teacher searching for science-related questions, can click on the science link on the left-hand side menu for a list of debate topics.  One example of how I would use this resource (specifically about the effects of caffeine) by means of a hook prior to introducing the SBI3U Internal Systems unit.  Here is a great lecture I found online, which demonstrates how the topic of caffeine can be incorporated in this unit.
