I believe that understanding and using the backwards Understanding by Design (UbD) concept is not only crucial for successful unit planning, but also for planning and organizing appropriate assessment strategies. The UbD Template provides step-by-step instructions on how to create a well-thought out unit, one lesson at a time. As such, it can be used for any content area and grade level, as it is not subject-specific. I personally like using this template as it also doubles as a reflective tool in order to determine which assessment strategies worked and which need further modifications.
